Abstract : Four triterpenoid saponins isolated from the leaves of Polyscias dichroostachya were identified as 3-O-[a-L-arabinopyranosyl]-hederagenin, 3-O-[a-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 - 2)-a-L-arabinopyranosyl]-hederagenin, 3-O-[ß-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 - 2)-a-L-arabinopyranosyl]-hederagenin, 3-O-[a-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 - 2)-a-L-arabinopyranosyl]-hederagenin 28-O-ß-D-glucopyranoside. The three monodesmosidic saponins were found to possess strong molluscicidal activity against the schistosomiasis-transmitting snails Biomphalaria glabrata, whereas the bidesmosidic saponin, a new natural product, was inactive.

Citation : Ng Kee Kwong, R.; Communication channels in the access to and transfer of information from research to practice; 1990
Abstract : The Mauritius Sugar Industry Research Institute (MSIRI) maintains a Library and Scientific Information Service to serve the research staff. Major responsibilities are the acquisition, collection, evaluation and dissemination of information required to support the research and development program. After a brief discussion of the internal lines of communication within the institute, this paper describes the v arious communication channels (e.g. talks, meetings, visits, demonstrations, field days, publications) which are utilized for the transfer of research results into practice. The creation of Farmers' Service Centers has allowed an improvement of the linkage between MSIRI and small planters.

Citation : Deville, J.; Figon, C.; Emmanuel, S.; A comparison of the rumen degradability of some feeds by artificial-fibre bag technique; 1980
Abstract : The extent to which the DM, nitrogen and starch contents of various concentrate by-products, forages and cassava root are degraded in the rumen was studied using artificial fibre bags. The rate of N degradation of fish meal was slow, confirming its high value as a protein supplement. Copra cake and leucaena forage were next best in providing by-pass protein, while rice bran and cassava tuber were of similar quality in providing by-pass starch. The problems encountered with pea mash and rice bran are also discussed.

Citation : Felix, S.; Ricaud, C.; A practical method for the assessment of the bacterial wilt potential of soils in Mauritius; 1980
Abstract : A reliable and practical bioassay for bacterial wilt (Pseudomonas solanacearum) in soil is described. Susceptible tomato plants are grown in pots with contaminated soil maintained at a high moisture level ranging from field capacity at the top of the pots to saturation at the bottom. A good correlation was obtained between survival rate of tomato plants and wilt incidence in the potato fields where soil samples were collected.
