Title : Trash management in Mauritian sugarcane plantations
Year of publication : 1996
Keywords : SUGARCANE; SUGARCANE TRASH; WEED CONTROL; HARVESTING; MSIRI STAFF; COWA; MAURITIUS;
Citation : Mc Intyre, G.; Seeruttun, S.; Barbe, C.; Trash management in Mauritian sugarcane plantations; 1996
Abstract : In dry, nonirrigated fields green cane harvesting has a highly positive effect on cane yield, particularly when trash blanketing is adopted after harvest. In wet areas trash blanketing has also shown good potential with reduced labour requirements, improved weed control and increased yields when rainfall is inadequate in the elongation phase. Chopper-harvesters working in green cane form a uniform trash blanket, which has a positive effect on cane yield and weed control.

Citation : Ramdoyal, K.; Domaingue, R.; Sullivan, S.; Autrey, L. J. C.; Studies on the inheritance of yellow spot (Mycovellosiella koepkei) disease in sugarcane; 1996
Abstract : The mode of inheritance of yellow spot disease in sugarcane was studied in seven bi-parental families. The segregation pattern and the frequency distribution of the progeny within infection classes depended largely on the susceptibility levels of the pare

Title : Fertilization of sugar cane to be used as seed pieces
Year of publication : 1995
Keywords : SUGARCANE; PLANT NUTRITION; NITROGEN; POTASSIUM; MSIRI STAFF; CHEM; MAURITIUS;
Citation : Ng Kee Kwong, K. F.; Paul, J. P.; Deville, J.; Fertilization of sugar cane to be used as seed pieces; 1995
Abstract : The growth patterns and yields of plant cane originating from seed pieces which had been fertilized with a supplementary dose of 120 kg N and 120 kg K2O/ha were studied in 1991 and 1992 in field trials at Union Park and Mon Rocher. The data obtained showed a better germination and initial vigour of the plant cane when the supplementary NK was delayed until one month before the seed pieces were harvested. The initial better growth of the plant cane was however negated in later stages with the result that no increase in cane or sugar yield was observed. Overnight soaking of seed pieces already supplemented with 120 kg N and 120 kg K2O/ha did not further improve the subsequent growth and yield of the plant cane.
