Title : Ratooning behaviour of sugar cane treated with Fusilade Super over four consecutive years
Year of publication : 1999
Keywords : SUGARCANE; RIPENING; Artificial ripening; Ratoon decline; Fusilade Super; Ripeners; MAURITIUS;
Citation : Nayamuth, A. R.; Dabeesing, D.; Ramlowat, B.; Ratooning behaviour of sugar cane treated with Fusilade Super over four consecutive years; 1999
Abstract : Ratoon decline is of major concern to cane growers in Mauritius (20 degrees S and 57 degrees E), and a more rapid decline is expected in fields where chemical ripener is applied repeatedly, although the benefit derived from the practice is known and accepted by growers. Commercial fields were sprayed with the chemical ripener Fusilade Super (fluazifop-butyl), from the plant crop for four consecutive years and the cane productivity measured. Three of the four varieties tested in six trials did not show a more rapid yield decline when the treated plots were compared with the untreated control, irrespective of whether the crops were irrigated or not. The slightly faster decline observed in the fourth variety could not be attributed solely to the Fusilade Super treatment.

Title : Agro-physiological characteristics underlying the sucrose accumulation pattern of early and late varieties
Year of publication : 2000

Citation : Nayamuth, A. R.; Cheeroo-Nayamuth, B. F.; Soopramanien, G. C.; Agro-physiological characteristics underlying the sucrose accumulation pattern of early and late varieties; 2000
Abstract : In Mauritius, sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) is harvested between June and November. The first crops harvested have low sucrose contents and juice purities, which result in low milling efficiencies. In order to improve the selection of varieties with h

Title : Development of a user-friendly process data acquisition and monitoring system
Year of publication : 1999
Keywords : DATA ACQUISITION; MONITORING SYSTEM; SUGAR INDUSTRY; STEAM; MAURITIUS;
Citation : Jhundoo, K.; Development of a user-friendly process data acquisition and monitoring system; 1999
Abstract : The development of a data acquisition and visualisation system, based onyears of experience gained in the sugar industry and on observations of the shortcomings in the existing system, is described. The software has been written in C and Labwindows, which is a User Interface development tool from National Instruments Corporation. Data collection from sensors is done by a Process Data Monitoring Station from Esters Elektronik, connected to the serial port of a PC. The introduction of different types of virtual channels enables the system to be easily adapted to almost any individual setup without any modifications to the source code. The integration of a powerful data processing technique has made data presentation and interpretation much easier. The new system is specially suited for industries that use steam extensively.
