Title : Proposals for improving the use of the ISSCT disease resistance ratings
Year of publication : 1981
Keywords : SUGARCANE; DISEASES; MSIRI STAFF; PATH; ;
Citation : Ricaud, C.; Proposals for improving the use of the ISSCT disease resistance ratings; 1981
Abstract : The 0-9 ISSCT scale for rating the resistance of sugarcane varieties to diseases provides a uniform system but has the drawback of being too detailed and it is consequently often wrongly used. It is proposed that only the broad ratings 2, 5 and 8 be used for preliminary tests and that the other ratings be used when more precise assessment of varietal reaction is possible. The regression method is advocated for relating infection levels in field trials to the standard ratings.

Citation : Williams, J. R.; Tropiduchidae (Fulgoroidea: Homoptera) from the Mascarenes; 1981
Abstract : Nine species of Tropiduchidae from the Mascarenes are described, four of them being new, and five new genera are proposed, namely Pseudoclardea, Idiomyctus, Aethomyctus, Cyrtomycta and Cuneoceps. The species are Clardea unicolor Signoret, Pseudoclardea leguati (Muir), comb. nov., Idiomyctus nigrostriatus (Synave), comb. nov., I. simus spec. nov., I. notatulus (Stal), comb. nov., Aethomyctus viridus spec. nov., Conchyoptera unicolor Signoret, Cyrtomycta perisema spec. nov. and Cuneoceps insularis spec. nov. Clardea mauritii Synave is synonymised with Clardea unicolor Signoret. All are indigenous to the Mascarenes and are frequent only indigenous Mascarene plants.

Title : Symptoms of sugarcane streak disease - similarities with mosaic
Year of publication : 1980
Keywords : SUGARCANE; SUGARCANE STREAK VIRUS; SUGARCANE MOSAIC VIRUS; DISEASES; PLANT VIRUSES; MSIRI STAFF; PATH; MAURITIUS;
Citation : Ricaud, C.; Symptoms of sugarcane streak disease - similarities with mosaic; 1980
Abstract : In addition to the well-described leaf markings, streak disease in sugar cane may cause depressions in the epidermis of the leaf lamina, leaf sheath and rind, enations on the leaf blade, gall-like protuberances on the midrib, and necrosis inside stem internodes. With the exception of the enations and the gall-like structures, the symptoms of streak may be confused with those of certain strains of sugar cane mosaic.
