Title : Influence of nitrogen fertiliser and varieties on plant water relations in potatoes
Year of publication : 1988
Keywords : POTATOES; PLANT NUTRITION; NITROGEN; PLANT WATER RELATIONS; VARIETIES; PHYSIOLOGY; MAURITIUS;
Citation : Wong Yen Cheong, K.; Influence of nitrogen fertiliser and varieties on plant water relations in potatoes; 1988
Abstract : The objective of this study was to investigate the possibility of using an Ohm's law analogue type model to study the influence of N application and varieties on crop water relations. Field measurements were found to be highly influenced by environmental

Title : Redesigning the extension services in Mauritius to meet the needs of the small sugarcane planters
Year of publication : 1989
Keywords : EXTENSION; SUGARCANE; SUGAR; PRODUCTION; FARMING SYSTEMS; Agricultural extension; MAURITIUS;
Citation : Payandi Pillay, K.; Redesigning the extension services in Mauritius to meet the needs of the small sugarcane planters; 1989
Abstract : Mauritius is an agricultural country and out of the 3 producer-groups involved in sugarcane production, the small planter sector presents a very particular case. The small sugarcane planters are nearly 33,000 out of a population of just over one million.

Title : Modelling the performance of a batch cooled sugar crystallizer
Year of publication : 1978
Keywords : SUGAR; CRYSTALLIZATION; PROCESSING; ;
Citation : Maudarbocus, S. M. R.; Modelling the performance of a batch cooled sugar crystallizer; 1978
Abstract : From considerations of mass, energy and population balances, equilibrium relationships and kinetic data, a model was prepared to predict the performance of an industrial cooling crystallizer as used in the cane sugar industry. Using given starting condit

Title : Computer aids for the identification of nematodes
Year of publication : 1986
Keywords : COMPUTER SOFTWARE; IDENTIFICATION; NEMATODA; SUGARCANE; PESTS; MAURITIUS;
Citation : Fong San Pin, F. H. F. G.; Computer aids for the identification of nematodes; 1986
Abstract : Research on nematodes depends to a large extent on the ability to identify them quickly and accurately. A program already exists at the Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI) that uses two methods of identification. These are the methods of Mismatch and the method of Statistics. However, this program is relatively inefficient and the second method does not work satisfactorily. Based on the existing program, a system is to be designed and implemented incorporating three methods of identification, namely the two existing methods and the method of Gower. It aims at providing methods of identification that are more convenient, more reliable and less tedious. Execution times on existing methods of identification have been reduced from six minutes and twelve minutes to two minutes and six minutes respectively.
