Title : Plant genetic resources: their conservation in situ for human use
Year of publication : 1989
Keywords : GERMPLASM; GENETIC RESOURCES; GENETICS; POTATOES; MAIZE; MEDICINAL PLANTS; FORESTRY; BAIKIAEA PLURIJUGA; ;
Citation : Palmberg, C., ed.; Plant genetic resources: their conservation in situ for human use; 1989
Abstract : A report based on a draft by Gilbert, V. C. focusing on the importance of in situ conservation, and stressing the need to alleviate the basic human condition as a precondition to conservation in areas where natural resources are threatened. An outline of genetic diversity is given at the ecosystem, species, population and gene levels. Case studies provided by various authors/organizations are presented on: Baikiaea plurijuga forest in Zambia; Pinus merkusii in Sumatra, Indonesia the Chaco region of Argentina; Mauritius; maize; potatoes and tomatoes; wheat; rice; biosphere reserves in Durango, Mexico; the Tropical Forestry Action Plan; and medicinal plants in Sri Lanka.

Title : Pre-harvest treatment of potato to increase dormancy and storage life of tubers
Year of publication : 1986
Keywords : POTATOES; DORMANCY; STORAGE; TUBERS; TUBER SPROUTING; PLANT DEVELOPMENT; PLANT PHYSIOLOGY; GROWTH REGULATORS; GAMMA IRRADIATION; STORAGE LIFE; MAURITIUS;
Citation : Goburdhan, S.; Pre-harvest treatment of potato to increase dormancy and storage life of tubers; 1986
Abstract : Two basic approaches : (1) extension of potato tuber dormancy by exogenous applications of chemical growth regulators and the physical sprout-suppression gamma irradiation permitting an high temperature, and (2) induction of tuber formation in potato plants grown under summer conditions by chemical regulators, thereby permitting a lengthening of the cropping period and a shortening of potato ware storage.
